About MAHI                                  

The Metropolitan Association of Home Inspectors (MAHI) is the New York Chapter of the National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI).  NAHI is one of the largest home inspection associations in the United States and MAHI has grown to be one of the largest home inspection associations in the state of New York.

MAHI was started in l998 by seven local Long Island inspectors who were determined to provide professional inspections for home buyers.   NAHI was chosen as the national body due to the fact it was the only known inspection association putting the buyers’ welfare above all other desires and demands. MAHI was developed with this same idea! It has grown to become one of the leading inspection associations whose members are sought by many home buyers. 

MAHI meetings consist of chapter business and at least one educational speaker each month.  The MAHI Board of Directors believe it is vital that the membership be informed of the constant changes and upgrading of the building industry that will contribute to a proper Professional Inspection.  MAHI meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month and everyone is invited.  Those who take advantage of this invitation may acquire some good pointers and possibly meet the MAHI Inspector you will be most comfortable with. 

MAHI inspectors are expected to complete NAHI approved training, maintain continuing education credits by means of monthly meeting educational discussions, attend a yearly seminar hosted by the local chapter or other NAHI approved courses. They must also abide by the NAHI Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics during each inspection

Our Goal

The goal of the Metropolitan Association of Home Inspectors Inc., MAHI, is to provide informative educational seminars in addition to the guidance and support needed to be successful in the Building Inspection Industry.  We have worked diligently to pass legislation licensing Home Inspectors and afford to them the recognition they deserve as professionals.  This year the New York Senate and Assembly have finally passed legislation to license Home Inspectors. 

As of January 1, 2006 any home inspection completed in New York State must be accomplished by a licensed inspector.
